Formerly
know as the “City of Kings” was founded
by Francisco Pizarro on January 18th , 1535. Actually
is the capital of Peru, with more than seven million
people, a third of the Peruvian population live in the
capital, Lima has an important tourist attractions as
well as a great selection of museums.
In
Lima we can find the Government’s Palace among
the works of colonial architecture, the Cathedral,
the Main Square, the City Hall and the Torre Tagle
Palace, a beautiful mansion built in 1735 today houses
the Foreign Affairs Ministry offices. The recently
renovated Palace of Osamblea built between the 1803
and the 1805 serves at the moment for gala events
and cultural exhibitions. The church of San Francisco
have been founded in 1535 and the church of La Merced
pre-dates its construction the founding of Lima, this
churches are considered among the most beautiful.
Lima
has also the most interesting collections of pre-Columbian
art and a wealthy collection of gold work pieces in
the celebrated Museum of Gold (Museo del Oro).
